Alfredo Sosabravo

Manuel Alfredo Sosabravo (Sagua la Grande, October 25, 1930). Painter, draftsman, engraver, ceramist, considered one of the most important Cuban artists of visual arts and design. His constant desire for improvement and the rigorous work developed has made him one of the most original creators of the two-dimensional expressions of Cuban art.

In 1941 he settled in Havana with his father, whom he helped in his work. He attends school irregularly, which he eventually has to leave.

In his teenage years he performs the most varied jobs: pharmacy assistant, flower shop worker, cleaning boy, messenger, bill collector and varnishing apprentice in a carpentry shop. Sosabravo has ventured into multiple manifestations of the visual arts, including painting, engraving, drawing and ceramics.

Between 1955-1957 he studied at the Elementary School of Applied Plastic Arts attached to the San Alejandro Academy of Plastic Arts, in Havana, Cuba.

In 1959 he exhibited with Acosta León at the La Rampa Arte y Cinema Gallery, Havana. It is included in the 1959 Annual Salon, Palacio de Bellas Artes, Havana.
